Working for the service
We are committed to ensuring that everyone working for Wiltshire Medical Services has:
- A manageable workload
- Works within a well supported team
- Attractive remuneration
- Flexible, responsive management by fellow clinicians
- Has influence over the way the service is delivered
- A financial bonus scheme rewarding: – Commitment, Performance and Reliability
At the core of our efforts to deliver excellent patient care is the understanding that this can only be accomplished by a well motivated team. We believe that the six elements above are key to maintaining motivation.
Manageable Workload
For our clinical staff this means making sure that team members spend their time dealing with the calls that are appropriate for them to take. This is why we have developed a call handling structure that makes sure those who need to speak to, or see an OoH clinician can do so, while those who would be better served by other NHS services are referred to them as quickly as possible.
A well supported team
This means not only a management team that listens and responds to the feedback it receives but one that fosters supportive relationships between the different groups of staff within the organisation; nurses, call handlers, doctors, administrative staff and managers.
Attractive remuneration
‘Money isn’t everything”. Although the old saying holds true, most employees feel less motivated about their work if they feel they are not appropriately remunerated. For this reason we believe in paying staff well, for the work they do. We expect high standards, but understand that to reach them, our staff need to feel valued.
Flexible responsive management by fellow clinicians
For clinical staff there is nothing worse than being told what to do by someone who doesn’t understand the particular challenges of their role. We are committed to ensuring that the decisions are made by people who understand the clinical environment and who are willing to listen to those ‘on the front line’.
Influencing in the way the service is delivered
It’s also important that you feel that you aren’t 'doing what you are told' at work but that you share the goals and values of the organisation and can influence them.
A financial bonus scheme
The Commitment, Performance and Reliability of the team are things that make the difference between an acceptable organisation and an excellent one. If we weren’t interested in excellence we wouldn’t reward these things. Because we are, we do.
